On Saturday, February 11th, 2017, we volunteered our time to sell "The Push For Change" fundraiser t-shirts.

The "Ice Road" Push

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

Our community is located on the western shore of the Moose River, a few kilometres from the southern tip of James Bay. Moose Factory is located on an island in the Moose River. Our communities are joined together during the winter months by our ice road.

Joe Roberts, "The Push for Change", was due to arrive in our community at lunch time. His time with us started with a  presentation to the students at Norhern LIghts Secondary School.

The Staff Sergeant, Rob Baskey, of the Ontario Provincial Police here in Moosonee first introduced  elder Dorothy Wynne to say the opening prayer, the Deputy Commissioner of the OPP  then spoke to the students. Your Worship, our Mayor Wayne Taipale was also present to share some words with the students.

Joe Roberts then told us his life story and how he got here today. His message fits with everything we are trying to do with Young Warriors of Turtle Island.

After his speech, the students walked with him as he pushed his cart to the northern ramp to the ice road. The OPP took him over to Moose Factory to speak with students there. When he was done, he started his Ice Road Push. We walked with him and helped him push his cart on the river and back up on to Moosonee. People were waiting here and we had a bonfire sliding party with hot chocolate and hot dogs. Here are some pictures our mother and some other people took.

We had a lot of fun.
