There are 5 groups:

All divisions will focus on self awareness and First Nation awareness while promoting academic and life skills. Membership to a First Nation is a requirement for Young Warriors.

Non-First Nations and adult divisions are in the works but will not be completed before the Young Warriors program.

**ADULTS - we have a group for you as a WARRIOR of Turtle Island!

Help us learn & teach & strengthen the youth.

Excerpts from expectations of the youth are below.

GATHERERS (Ages 5, 6 and 7)

Wacheya!

A giant welcome to all our new Gatherers.

You are wonderful. Give yourself a hug for all of us at Young Warriors of Turtle Island.

Your group colour is yellow. You are at the beginning of the Young Warriors of Turtle Island Medicine Wheel. Your colour is found in the east.

Gatherers are responsible for gathering knowledge and skills. Your job is to learn something new every single day. You can learn whatever you like; it could be a song, or how to spell a new word, how to take care of a pet or the meaning of your name!

We suggest you keep a journal so that you can write down what you learned today, EVERYDAY!

Please work hard, do the very best you can do and have fun.

We will meet one day. And you will meet other Young Warriors one day.

Welcome to your world. And welcome to your Young Warrior family.

Wacheya!

Welcome to all our Fishermen (Ages 8, 9 and 10) this year!

Your team colour is red. Red stands for courage and healing.

It is to the South of the Youth Warriors of Turtle Island Medicine Wheel.

It is still your job to learn new things.  It is your job to find out about things you like all on your own. Just like a Fisherman who casts his hook out into the water to catch a fish, your job is to cast your ‘knowledge’ hook out into the world to learn about anything you want and bring that information and knowledge back to you.

If you have someone to help you that is great! If you don’t, that’s great!

YOU are always with you!

Keep a journal of everything that you learn; it is still your job to learn something new today, every day!

Welcome to your world. And welcome to your Young Warrior family.

TRAPPERS 11-13

You are in the third quadrant of the Young Warriors of Turtle Island Medicine Wheel. Your division is found in the west.

Your job as a Trapper is to make sure you remember the skills you are learning and the knowledge you are gaining. You will soon be an adult and you must learn how to do things for yourself. You must TRAP the knowledge and skills you gain by practicing them again and again.

You still have the job of writing in your journal every day to keep a record of something new today, every day. Have fun!!!

Welcome to your world. And welcome to your Young Warrior family.

Hunters 14-16 years old

Wacheya to all our Hunters!!

You are in the fourth quadrant of the Young Warriors Medicine Wheel.

Your team colour is white. White represents the cold and snow from the north. The cold and snow makes life difficult. You must learn skills that will help you with your future. You must gain wisdom to make good decisions that will keep you safe and healthy.

Your job is to look to the future and to learn about some of the things you would like to do as an adult. You need to learn how to foresee consequences and plan for them, both good and not so good. You need to continue learning to be a leader.  Have fun hunting for all the tools and skills you need for your future! And don’t forget your daily record of something new you learned today, EVERY DAY!!

Welcome to your world. And welcome to your Young Warrior family.

HEROES & ROLE MODELS (17-18 years old)

Wacheya to all our Heroes & Role Models!!

You are organized differently from the younger quadrants.

Your group colour is blue.

You will focus on learning skills that will help you in your adult work life and home life.

And don’t forget your daily record of something new you learned today, EVERY DAY!!

Welcome to your world. And welcome to your Young Warrior family.
